This silverplated berry spoon is the Columbia pattern, introduced in 1893. It measures 8.75 inches long and is in Very Good condition with light rubbing on the back of the bowl at the heel. Backstamp: 1847 Rogers Bros. A1, now International Silver Co.
This pattern was designed for the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. It was a celebration of the 400th anniversay of Columbus's discovery. Like glassware and other pieces of this period, the dolphin, which is wrapped around the handle, has scales and a dragon-like tongue. Please click on the photo to enlarge.
